Karen Armstrong Speaks on Compassion at the AUS
Dr Karen Armstrong, world renowned author and commentator on religious affairs spoke on "The Role of Compassion in the Major World Faiths: The Story of the Charter for Compassion, Its Aims, Goals and Relevance in Our Polarized World" at the American University of Sharjah, UAE on Monday 5th April, 2010, in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah. Dr Armstrong stressed the need to develop and work towards a compassionate and selfless attitude to human relations and argued that compassion is a cornerstone of the theology of each religious tradition. She argues that only through compassion could one adopt the ability to empathise with the world at large and that it was the most fundamental principle that could bring about peace. Dr Aref Nayed, attending the lecture, gave copies of KRM publications to both H.H. Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammad Al-Qassimi and to Dr Karen Armstrong and stated that Kalam Research and Media will support the work of the Charter of Compassion.
